It's one of the most common questions we get. And it's a fair one. Most products that depend on another product to work, like a turntable and its needle, a printer and its ink... bundled together. So why does a display frame designed specifically to hold a physical game arrive without one? The answer is straightforward. And it matters.

We'd have to overcharge you for it

To include a game with every frame, we'd need to source games in volume, build the cost into the price, and charge you for them. Follow that logic to its conclusion and you'd end up paying more for that game through us than you'd pay anywhere else. That's not a bundle.

Cheevo exists because of a specific belief: that you shouldn't have to overpay to display something you love. The brand exists because customers were priced out of framing what they love. Inflating a game's cost and calling it a perk is precisely the behaviour we were built to push back against. We just won't do it.

But wait, there's something more important here

There's a second reason, and it's the one we'd lead with if we were being honest about how we think about this.

The game that goes into a Cheevo frame is not supposed to be a copy we sourced from a warehouse. It's supposed to be yours. The one you queued for on release day. The one you completed three times over and would complete again. The one your dad bought you the Christmas before things changed. The one a friend handed you and said "trust me on this one."

Physical games are time capsules. They hold more than a disc and a printed case. The copy you pick up carries something no bulk purchase ever will and that's a before and after. A chapter of your life where that game was part of what was happening. That's what you're putting on the wall. Not the game. The memory of the game.

A frame we bundle with a game we've chosen is the display equivalent of a digital download: convenient, functional, and completely missing the point.

A large part of the people who buy Cheevo frames are framing something they already own. The case has been sitting on a shelf for years, or buried in a box, or wedged into a drawer, and the frame is the last piece needed to finally do it justice. But let's say you need to find a game, where do you go?

If you're hunting a particular physical release two places are worth knowing about.

eBay. You can find pretty much anything there, including steelbooks and collector's editions in varying conditions. Search the game title alongside "steelbook" or "limited edition" to cut through standard copies. Check completed listings before you bid so you have an idea of what something has actually sold for recently, which is a more honest guide than asking prices. Condition varies, so read seller descriptions carefully and look at photos of the actual case, not stock images.

CEX is the more tactile route. If you have a branch nearby, you can pick the case up and check the condition yourself before you commit. Their online catalogue is solid for pre-owned titles and pricing tends to be predictable. For steelbooks specifically, they stock more than most people expect.
